Ryan Connell is in his fourth year at Washington and Lee, serving as the Athletics Broadcaster and Multimedia Creative Specialist.
Since arriving at W&L, Connell has helped to bolster the department’s digital and social presence through a variety of mediums, while overseeing all broadcast and operations of the Washington and Lee Sports Network.
Connell has created, produced and edited countless multimedia interviews, video highlight packages and social media graphics for all 24 W&L athletics teams. He also serves as the Host of Generals in :60, and the play-by-play voice of Generals athletics.
Under his direction, the Washington and Lee Sports Network has reached new heights. With a strong student-based team, Connell has helped to recruit, train and mentor students to assist with commentary, camera operation and production. Over the last three years, they have produced close to 500 different events, reaching 250k viewers while hosting over 40 NCAA Championship events.
On top of his work at W&L, he has been very involved with NCAA Championships. Connell was the play-by-play voice of the 2024 NCAA DIII Field Hockey National Championships held here in Lexington, while also working for the NCAA as the lead social media contact for 5 different National Championships including the 50th Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
Prior to arriving at W&L, Connell spent a year as TV sports reporter for KFBB in Great Falls, Montana. He also has professional stops working at CBS Sports HQ, the New York Red Bulls and at Sirius XM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio. During his time at Hofstra University, he provided play-by-play and color commentary for Hofstra men's and women's basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball and field hockey. He also was the Executive Producer of the New York Islanders Radio Network for the 2017-18 season and spent three seasons as a rink side reporter for New York Islanders.
A native of Branford, Connecticut, Connell graduated from Hofstra University in 2019 with a B.A. in journalism with a concentration in sports media and a minor in rhetorical studies.
