Chris McHugh ’09 is in his ninth season as the head coach of the Washington and Lee men's basketball program since taking the helm during the 2017-18 season.
 
Under McHugh's leadership, the Generals have amassed a 132-81 (.620) overall record with a mark of 83-50 (.624) in ODAC play, plus 19 All-ODAC accolades, two ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, three ODAC Defensive Player of the Years and two ODAC Rookies of the Year. Additionally, four players have received all-region laurels and had two athletes have been named to the NABC Division III All-Star game.
 
In one of the toughest conferences in Division III Men’s Basketball, McHugh has guided his Generals to seven ODAC Tournaments, including three semifinal finishes and one championship appearance (2023-24). W&L has posted a winning season in eight of nine seasons with McHugh leading the way, including four seasons with at least 18 wins.
