Sydney Anderson was named Director of Athletic Communications for Washington and Lee University in August 2022, after serving as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Shenandoah University, a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, for four years.
In 2023, Anderson was elected Vice President of the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) association for a two-year term and currently serves as its webmaster.
She is the primary media contact for the Generals' Cross Country, Field Hockey, Riding, Wrestling, Golf, and Women's Lacrosse programs and is part of the athletic department’s administration. Additionally, Anderson serves on the W&L Athletics Hall of Fame Committee, the Brookby Family W&L Athletics Awards Committee, and the University Athletic Council.
Anderson has overseen NCAA postseason events for Field Hockey, Men's Soccer, Women's Tennis, Women's Lacrosse, and Men's Lacrosse at W&L. She also hosted the 2019 ODAC Cross Country Championships and the 2022 NCAA DIII Baseball Winchester Regional Championship at Shenandoah.
Her NCAA Championship experience includes serving as the official statistician for the DIII Women's Lacrosse Championships from 2019 to 2025, as well as for the DII Women's Lacrosse Championships in 2021 and 2025
A native of Aurora, Colorado, Anderson earned a Master's Certificate in Digital Marketing from Shenandoah’s School of Business in August 2022. She also freelances as a website designer and manager for small businesses in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, assisting with brand marketing.
Before her full-time role in Shenandoah's athletic communications, Anderson was a sixth-grade science teacher at Admiral Byrd Middle School in Winchester from 2014 to 2018. During that time, she served as head coach for the girls' Cross Country and Track & Field teams, assisted with game operations, and was Interim Athletic Director in 2018.
Anderson is a 2013 graduate of Shenandoah University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in University Studies with a concentration in K-6 education and a minor in coaching. She was a team captain and four-year starter on the SU women’s lacrosse team and, as a senior, received the SU Athletic Director’s Female Senior Award. Anderson later served as an assistant coach for the 2014 and 2015 seasons under head coach Lindsey Lutz. She is also a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.
