NEW MARKET, Va. — The Washington and Lee University men's cross country team placed five runners among the top seven finishers Friday evening to claim the team title at the JMU Cross Country Invitational at New Market Battlefield.
The Generals totaled 20 points in the 8K race, finishing 19 points ahead of runner-up Mount St. Mary's (39). Mary Baldwin placed third with 76 points. W&L also accounted for six of the race's top eight finishers.
First-year
Will Pacey paced the Generals with his first collegiate individual victory, completing the course in 26:24.70. He was joined in the top five by first-year
Jason Oberly in third (27:09.70), sophomore
Kaden Rife in fourth (27:23.00) and junior
Mitchell DiMond in fifth (27:27.00).
Washington and Lee returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Running of the Cows Pre-Nationals, hosted by Carleton College at the Bill Huyck Cross Country Course in Northfield, Minn. The 8K race is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (noon CT).
