ROANOKE, Va. — The Washington and Lee University equestrian team earned three blue ribbons and finished third in the 10-team field on Sunday to close out the Hollins University IHSA Double-Header.
The Generals totaled 31 team points after the drop, trailing only Virginia Tech (47) and the University of Lynchburg (42). W&L improved two spots from its fifth-place finish on Saturday and concluded the opening weekend of the season with 51 points across the two shows.
Sierra Johnson,
Ryon Sinclair and
Sophie Csatlos each earned first-place finishes for the Generals. Johnson led W&L with a win in Open Flat and added a fifth-place finish in Open Fences, while Sinclair won Limit Fences and placed second in Limit Flat. Csatlos rounded out the Generals' blue-ribbon performances with a victory in Limit Flat.
The Generals return to IHSA competition next weekend for the Virginia Tech IHSA Double Header in Blacksburg, Va. The two-day event begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, with the second show scheduled for 8 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11.
RIDE NOTES
- Johnson earned a blue ribbon in Open Flat and added a fifth-place finish in Open Fences.
- Sinclair produced a pair of top-two finishes, winning Limit Fences and placing second in Limit Flat A section.
- Csatlos claimed W&L's third blue ribbon of the day with a first-place finish in Limit Flat C section.
- Samantha Bourque recorded a pair of top-four finishes, placing second in Open Flat and fourth in Open Fences.
- Catie Ortmans earned a runner-up finish in Intermediate Flat.
- Iona Campbell placed third in Introductory, while Kaycie Miranda finished fourth in Intermediate Flat and fifth in Intermediate Fences.
- Lela Ganske added a fourth-place finish in Limit Fences.
- Harper Ullrich placed fifth in Novice, while Brooke Capuzzi finished sixth in the division.
