LEXINGTON, Va. — Washington and Lee University men's wrestling earned a hard-fought 27–23 victory over Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon inside Doremus Gymnasium, securing a key Old Dominion Athletic Conference win. The Generals (6-4, 1-0 ODAC) recorded five individual victories, including three falls, to overcome an early deficit and hold off a late SVU push.
After surrendering a forfeit at 125, Washington and Lee responded with a dominant stretch through the middle of the lineup, winning five of the next six bouts to seize control of the dual.

Up Next: Washington and Lee returns to ODAC competition on Thursday, Jan. 29, traveling to face Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va., at 7 p.m. The Generals will then close the week on Saturday, Jan. 31, with a road dual at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va., beginning at 5 p.m.

Southern Virginia opened the match with a forfeit win at 125, but the Generals quickly flipped the momentum. Vincent Ziccardi evened the score with an emphatic 18–2 technical fall at 133, setting the tone for a decisive run by W&L.
Following a narrow setback at 141, the Generals surged with three straight falls. Evan Lindner pinned Richie Kulessa at 149, Liam Flanagan followed with a 48-second fall at 157, and Colin Bridges needed just 21 seconds to secure a pin at 165, pushing W&L ahead 21–9. Jacob Wright added a major decision at 174 to extend the lead.
Southern Virginia closed the gap with wins at 184, 197, and 285, but the Generals' bonus-point production earlier in the lineup proved decisive as W&L held on for the four-point victory.
