September 24, 2025

  • Junior Jonathan McEwen (Men's Golf)- Junior Jonathan McEwen picked up his second-straight Golfer of the Week honor after finishing in a T-4th place at the NCAA Preview at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. McEwen opened up the tournament with a two-under 69 on Sunday with four birdies and an eagle before shooting even par in round two. He capped off the tournament with a four-under 68 with five birdies to turn in his second-straight Top Five finish.
     
  • Junior Ella Wong (Women's Golf) - Wong placed fourth out of 54 golfers at the MCC Women's Intercollegiate over the weekend, helping No. 13 W&L to a second-place team finish. Wong shot a 2-under 70 in the first round before going 5-over on day two to finish six shots off the lead. She finished the tournament tied for third in birdies (7), tied for fourth in par-3 scoring (3.00), tied for fifth in par-4 scoring (4.30) and sixth in par-5 scoring (4.63).


September 23, 2025

  • Sophomore Sam Daunt (Men's Cross Country - Athlete of the Week) - Sophomore Sam Daunt (Haymarket, Va.) led No. 18 Washington and Lee to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals meet in Spartanburg, S.C. Daunt clocked 24:49.7 to place fifth overall, pacing a tight Generals' front pack that included three top-10 finishers. His effort helped W&L post 82 points to finish behind only No. 6 North Central (59) and No. 17 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (63), while holding off No. 27 Case Western (121).
     

September 22, 2025

  • Senior Bryn Bissinger (Women's Soccer - Def. Player of the Week) - In their only game of the week, Bissinger was strong on both ends of the pitch for No. 15 W&L in a 1-1 draw against No. 3 Christopher Newport on Saturday. The Generals fell behind by a goal in the 12th minute, before Bissinger took a free kick in the 13th minute and found the head of senior Sarah Zimmerman for the equalizer. On the defensive end, Bissinger anchored a defensive unit that allowed just four CNU shots in the second half to help keep the score even. With her assist, Bissinger broke a tie with Erica Reineke '98 for ninth most in program history (19).
     
  • Senior Julia McDonald (Field Hockey - Def. Player of the Week) - Senior goalkeeper Julia McDonald (Guilford, Conn.) anchored Washington and Lee's defense in a pair of victories, including a nationally ranked upset. McDonald tallied seven saves in a 4-1 win over Mary Washington, holding the Eagles scoreless after the seventh minute. She followed with 10 saves in a 4-3 overtime win against No. 14 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, where she and the Generals' defense turned aside four consecutive penalty corners in the extra period, including two stops from McDonald. W&L earned their highest-ranked win since defeating No. 14 Shenandoah University, 5–2, on October 26, 2022. 
     
  • Junior Vivi Vasquez (Volleyball - Def. Player of the Week) - Junior libero Vivi Vasquez led the defensive efforts for the sixth-ranked W&L volleyball team, helping them to a 1-1 record over the weekend to earn her first defensive player of the week honor of the season. Vasquez recorded 52 digs across the two matches, averaging 6.50 per set with a .957 reception percentage. She dug out 21 attacks in a win over Randolph before posting a season-high 32 digs in their match against Lynchburg.


September 17, 2025

  • Junior Jonathan McEwen (Men's Golf) - McEwen earned his first Golfer of the Week honor after finishing tied for first place in No. 2 W&L's season-opening event at the Gate City Invite. He opened the tournament with an impressive eight-under-par 64 that included two eagles, followed by an even-par 72 in round two. McEwen closed with a two-over 74, sinking a birdie on the 18th hole to secure his T-1 finish and help the Generals place sixth overall as a team. He led the tournament in par-5 scoring with a 4.17 average (-10) and finished as the tournament leader in eagles with three.


September 15, 2025

  • First-year Sarah Ladd (Women's Tennis - Singles) - Ladd faced stiff competition in her first three collegiate singles matches, but was up to the task by going 2-1 at the CNU Invite over the weekend. She opened by defeating Sarah Sandoval Banuelos of Mary Washington 6-1, 6-2, before losing a close 7-5, 7-5 decision against Feline van Eijkelenburg of Division I Longwood. Ladd closed out the weekend with another straight-set win on Sunday 6-4, 7-6 (4) over Lindsey Bergelin of CNU. Ladd's UMW and CNU opponents project to line up at No. 1 singles this season for their respective teams.

September 8, 2025

  • Senior Sarah Zimmerman (Women's Soccer - Off. Player of the Week) - Zimmerman led the offense for No. 13 W&L last week with a goal and an assist for a 2-0 record on the week. She first scored the only goal in the game in a 1-0 victory at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon, before she assisted Amelia Manke on W&L's first goal in a 2-1 win at home over No. 5 Johns Hopkins. Through four games, Zimmerman is tied for the team lead in goals (2), assists (1) and points (5) with classmate Helen Otteni.
     
  • Sophomore Kate McEnroe (Women's Soccer - Def. Player of the Week) - McEnroe picked up the win in goal in both games for No. 13 W&L last week, totaling 11 saves on 12 shots on goal. She earned her first collegiate shutout behind four saves in the Generals' 1-0 win at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon, before she made seven stops in a 2-1 victory against No. 5 Johns Hopkins on Sunday. All seven of McEnroe's saves against the Blue Jays came in the second half. 
     
  • Junior Grace Mitchener (Volleyball - Offensive Player of the Week) - Mitchener picked up her second-straight ODAC Offensive Player of the Week award after leading the ninth-ranked Generals to three wins at the W&L Invitational. She recorded 43 kills on 117 attempts for a .316 hitting percentage while registering double-digit kills in each match to earn a pair of sweeps over Mary Washington and St. Mary's and a 3-1 win over Southern Virginia. She also added five service aces and 34 digs during the weekend.
     
  • Senior Julia McDonald (Field Hockey - Defensive Player of the Week) - Goalkeeper Julia McDonald (Guilford, Conn.) anchored Generals Field Hockey in a strong defensive showing that included a 2-1 home-opening win over Denison and a narrow 1-0 setback to No. 6 Christopher Newport. McDonald tallied one save against the Big Red before turning in a career-best 18 stops against CNU, tying the fourth-highest single-game mark in program history.
     
  • Junior Olivia Warr (Women's Cross Country - Athlete of the Week) - Warr claimed her first ODAC weekly award of the 2025-26 school year and claimed the individual title at the Virginia Tech Invitational, pacing Washington and Lee as the only Division III program in the field. Warr won the women's 4K in 13:42.9, averaging a 5:31.1 mile to edge Radford's Sophie Magson by 4.5 seconds at the finish. Behind Warr's effort, the No. 11 Generals placed third in the team standings with 56 points, trailing only Radford (36) and Virginia Tech (41).
     
  • Sophomore Sam Daunt (Men's Cross Country - Athlete of the Week) - Daunt led the Generals with a top-10 finish at the Virginia Tech Invitational, where W&L was the lone Division III program in the field. Daunt completed the 6K course in 18:35.0 (4:59.1 per-mile pace) to place 10th overall and eighth among collegiate runners, finishing as the top non-Virginia Tech competitor. He edged teammate William Dunaway by 2.3 seconds at the line to help the No. 14 Generals secure third place in the team standings with 96 points, trailing only Virginia Tech (15) and Radford (66).

September 2, 2025

  • Junior Grace Mitchener (Volleyball - Offensive Player of the Week) - Mitchener earned the first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season after leading the ninth-ranked Generals to four wins on opening weekend. She registered 57 kills with just nine errors on 129 attempts for an impressive .372 hitting percentage. Mitchener recorded 10 or more kills in each match, highlighted by 17 in a sweep of Asbury and 16 in a sweep of Centre. She also notched a career-high five service aces against Wilmington and totaled 41 digs across the weekend.
