No. 24 Wrestling Edges No. 20 Baldwin Wallace, 20–18, in Non-Conference Thriller

BEREA, Ohio — No. 24 Washington and Lee University earned a statement victory on Friday night, taking down No. 20 Baldwin Wallace University, 20–18, in a tightly contested non-conference dual.

The Generals (3-0) opened with four straight wins to build an early lead, then sealed the dual behind late clutch performances from John Santowski at 197 and Carter Stack at heavyweight.

W&L finished with six individual victories, including a bonus-point tech fall from Skyler Hickman, while Baldwin Wallace stayed in contention with two critical late-match swings at 165 and 184. With the score tied 14–14 entering the final two bouts, the Generals delivered back-to-back decisions to secure the ranked-road win.

Up Next: Washington and Lee returns to the mat at the New Standard Invitational, hosted by York College of Pennsylvania. The two-day tournament begins on Friday, Dec. 5 in York, Pa., with opening rounds starting at 2:30 p.m. Competition resumes on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m.


W&L 20, Baldwin Wallace 18

Washington and Lee controlled the early momentum, jumping ahead 11–0 after victories from Ben Rubin, Vincent Ziccardi, and Hickman, the latter scoring a dominant 18–2 tech fall at the five-minute mark. Baldwin Wallace clawed back with wins at 149, 165, 174, and a 6-point win at 184, turning a once double-digit W&L lead into a 4-point deficit.

Trailing 18–14, the Generals responded under pressure. Santowski delivered a critical 2–1 decision at 197, cutting the deficit to one match. In the night's decisive bout, Stack controlled his pace and positioning to win 4–2 at heavyweight, completing the comeback and sealing W&L's second ranked win of the season.

Ziccardi, Hickman, Flanagan, Santowski and Stack all remain undefeated in dual contests for the Generals this season.
