No. 25 Generals Women Win 12 Events to Defeat Lynchburg

LEXINGTON, Va. — The 25th-ranked Washington and Lee University women's swimming team delivered a dominant all-around performance on Friday evening, winning 12 of 14 events to defeat the University of Lynchburg, 193–68, at the W&L Natatorium.

The Generals controlled nearly every race from start to finish, led by multiple-event winners Maria Jellig, Peighton Kruzel, and Celia Bredehoeft. W&L swept the top three in several events and secured at least one top-three finisher in all 14 races to improve to 2–1 in dual meet competition.

Up Next: Washington and Lee returns to action with a split weekend schedule. The Generals travel to Chicago for the Chicago Shoot Out, competing on Friday, November 7, at 4 p.m. CT and again on Saturday, November 8, at 11:30 a.m. CT.

Meanwhile, select swimmers will compete at home against Southern Virginia University on Friday, November 7, at 6 p.m. in the W&L Natatorium.

Notable Performances

Julia Connor, Katie Crawford, and Annie Avery swept the top three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Celia Bredehoeft, Ruth Crane, and Tenra Adams led a 1–2–3–4 finish in the 200 free and later went 1–2 in the 500.
Maria Jellig earned wins in the 200 back and 200 IM and finished runner-up in the 200 fly, giving her three top-two finishes.
Peighton Kruzel swept both butterfly events and contributed to the winning 200 medley relay.
Amelia Maloof and Frances Fenton went 1–2 in the 50 free, while Grace Bentley and Marcy Mortimer went 1–2 in the 100 free.
Morgan Smith, Frances Fenton, and Paige McBoyle placed 2–3–4 in the 200 breaststroke, W&L's only event loss along with the 100 breast.
W&L relay teams finished first and third in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
