Men’s Swimming Grinds Out 148-114 Win at VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team picked up their sixth win of the season on Saturday as they knocked off Virginia Military Institute (VMI) 148-114. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Generals won nine of the 14 events this afternoon, claiming wins in both relays. Four different swimmers helped the Blue and White win seven individual events. 
  • Leighton Chapman, Matt Fritz, Charles Byars and Baxter Smelzer teamed up to post a pool record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:23.81. 
  • Matt Fritz led the Generals with four wins, partaking in both relay teams that finished in first. Individually, Fritz notched a win in the 100 backstroke (51.55s) before recording an ODAC-best 49.84s in the 100 butterfly. 
  • Dalton Jobe had a hand in three wins, all coming in individual events. Jobe claimed gold in the 200 (1:49.91) and 500 (4:49.27) free while posting the pool record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.64. 
  • Stephen Ewing won the 1000 free with a time of 10:07.41 while Reese Nelson claimed gold in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.23.

  • The Blue and White will take a week off before heading to Greensboro, N.C. for the 2024 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships on Feb. 7-10.
