Wrestling Shuts Out Southern Virginia in Season Opener

LEXINGTON, Va - The Washington and Lee University wrestling team defeated Southern Virginia University 54-0 on Saturday night's 2023-24 debut dual.

The Generals (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) opened up the season on Young Alumni Weekend with the ODAC win over the cross-town rival Knights (0-1, 0-1) thanks to seven falls and one technical fall of the 10 varsity matches.

IN BRIEF

The dual opened up with a bang with David Rubin (125) and Trey Custodio (133) pinning their respective opponents less than 30 seconds into each bout.
Nic Zamaloff (157), Harrison Kelly (174), Jack McCusker (184), John Santowski (197) and John Ryan Sedovy (285) all posted falls.
Mark Troni (165) scored a 16-0 technical fall (4:44).
In his first live action back on the mat, Harris Foad (141) recorded a 10-4 decision after being sidelined with an injury for nearly the entire 2022-23 season.
Evan Lindner followed Foad wrestling at the 149 class and took a 12-0 major decision.

BY THE NUMBERS

Including a pair of exhibitions, the Blue and White tallied 21 takedowns and seven nearfall-4s.
Six Generals recorded riding time points and defensively did not give up a single take down in the 10 varsity events.
