Men’s Swimming Rolls Past UMW, 168-94

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team picked up their first dual meet win of the season as the Generals defeated the University of Mary Washington 168-94 on Saturday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Generals won 13 of the 14 events to defeat the Eagles 168-94. Seven different swimmers combined to win 11 individual events with four Generals providing multiple solo victories. 
  • Junior Matt Fritz led the Generals with four total victories including individual wins in the 100 backstroke (52.25) and 100 butterfly (51.26). Fritz was a part of both the 200 medley relay (1:34.17) and 200 free relay (1:24.68) wins. First-year Leighton Chapman had his hand in four wins today, including two wins in the 50 free (21.40) and 100 free (47.06). The Houston, Texas native was was a part of the two winning relay teams as well. 
  • Sophomore Dalton Jobe picked up three wins today for the Blue and White. The Henrico, Va. native claimed the top spot in the 200 free (1:42.13) and the 500 free (4:47.00) while swimming with the 200 free relay team. 
  • Sophomore Thomas Denton capped off the multi-event winners as he finished in first in the 200 backstroke (2:00.43) and the 200 IM (1:59.70). Lucas Chacon, Harrison Cerone and Reese Nelson each added a win for the Generals. 
FIRST-PLACE FINISHERS  UP NEXT
  • The Generals host No. 10 Carnegie Mellon next Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. inside the W&L Natatorium.
