HOWEY-in-the-HILLS, Fla. – Junior
Pierce Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C. / Thomas Jefferson Classical) placed in a tie for sixth overall in leading 15th-ranked Washington and Lee to an eighth-place team finish at the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship held at the Mission Inn Resort.
Robinson finished the tournament with a +4 score of 75-75-71-70—291, the second-lowest 72-hole scoring total in program history. He was eight strokes behind the NCAA Individual Champion, Andre Chi of Methodist University. Chi won the tournament by two strokes over Will Hocker of Webster. Robinson's -2 round of 70 was tied for the second-lowest total for the final round.
Methodist also seized the team title, finishing the event with a 292-289-292-295—1168 (+20) to win by eight strokes over fellow ODAC member Hampden-Sydney. The Tigers placed second with a +28 score of 296-293-296-291—1176.
Washington and Lee carded a +55 score of 300-298-301-304—1203, which was also the second-best 72-hole scoring total in program history for a team.
Senior
Austin Sharrett (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin) capped his W&L career with a 45th-place finish out of the 96 players that made the cut. His final tally was 73-70-79-83—305 (+18).
First-year
Will Braxton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) tied for 53rd overall with a +20 score of 80-76-75-76—307 and sophomore
Cannon Crane (Atlanta, Ga. / Holy Innocents' Episcopal) tied for 63rd with a 74-77-77-81—309 (+22).
Junior
Caleb Choe (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) rounded out the Generals in the field with a 78-83-78-77—316 (+29) that tied for 82nd overall.
This was the fifth time in program history that W&L placed in the Top 10 at the NCAA Division III Championship. The last occasion was in 2018 when W&L finished as the runner-up.
