GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team cushioned its lead at the 2022 ODAC Championships on Friday evening with four wins.
Highlights from the meet:
-The four W&L wins came across five events, as the Generals have earned 309.5 points to top the field. Roanoke is currently in second place with 260.5 points through two days, followed by Lynchburg with 172 markers to round out the Top 3.
-First-years
Baxter Smelzer (Greensboro, N.C./Page) and
Matt Snyder (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) logged one solo win each to lead the individual performers. Smelzer's win came in the 50 free in a time of 20.80, while Snyder touched first in the 200 IM in 1:52.98.
-Junior
Dawson Kramer (Taylors, S.C./Eastside) and first-year
Devin Bateman (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) both swam on the winning 200 free relay (1:22.78) and 400 medley relay (3:23.56). They were joined on the 200 free relay by first-year
Sam Stelter (Orange, Va./Woodberry Forest) and sophomore
Will Hughes (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson Secondary), along with first-year
Matt Fritz (Reston, Va./South Lakes) and senior
Steve Warren (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) on the 400 medley relay.
