Wrestling Competes at Star City

The Generals go 3-0 in Duals, Put Five on the Podium in Salem

SALEM, Va. - The Washington and Lee University wrestling team competed at the Star City Duals and Star City Classic on Sunday. 

The team went 3-0 in duals with an ODAC win over Greensboro (48-9), and a pair of non-conference wins against Thomas More (31-18) and Huntingdon (47-3). 

Eleven Generals also competed in the Classic bracket and five ended the day on the podium. The team recorded 25 points towards the team finish, good for third-most.

The Blue and White (3-1, 1-1 ODAC) lost just six matches and recorded 10 pins over the three duals. Evan Linder (New Milford, Conn. / New Milford High School), Harris Foad (Cincinnati, Ohio / Indian Hill), Harrison Kelly (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and John Ryan Sedovy (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County) all posted a pair of falls in their respective weight classes.

First-Year Vincent Ziccardi (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) went 3-0 through the 141 pound bracket and claimed the Generals' only individual title of the day in a 3-2 decision over Roanoke's Dustin Smith.

David Rubin (Matawan, N.J. / Matawan Regional) fell in the 1st place match to Roanoke's Sean Hill by fall (6:38) in the 133 weight class and Tade Omisore (Williamsport, Md. / Saint James School) fought back from the heavyweight consolation bracket and pinned George Mitchell (Ferrum) at 0:31. 

Jak Krouse (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) fell in the 3rd place match in a 5-3 decision to Roanoke's Jacob Cherry in the 165-pound bracket.

Next, the Generals will compete at the New Standard Invitational on Friday, December 2 and 3, hosted by York College.
