W&L Men's Swimming tops UMW to remain undefeated

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team used 12 event wins to move past Mary Washington by a score of 168-94 and improve to 2-0 on Saturday.
 
Highlights from the meet:
-W&L's 12 wins came across 10 individual races and both relays. Seven different swimmers produced at least one individual win each, with two Generals winning multiple solo races apiece.
 
-The Generals were led by three wins from first-year Dalton Jobe (Henrico, Va. / Collegiate School), who won the 200 free (1:45.11), 500 free (4:50.57) and 200 IM (1:58.48).
 
-Sophomore Matt Fritz (Reston, Va. / South Lakes) won a pair of individual races, coming in the 100 back (54.06) and 100 fly (53.27), and he also won the 200 medley relay (1:37.17) with first-year Harrison Cerone (Darnestown, Md. / Georgetown Preparatory School), senior Colin Whiting (Henrico, Va. / Douglas S. Freeman) and junior Will Hughes (Fairfax, Va. / James W. Robinson Secondary).
 
-In addition to helping the 200 medley relay to its win, Hughes touched first in the 200 back (2:01.22) and also swam the opening leg for the winning 200 free relay (1:28.22).
 
-Senior Todd Echols (Winston Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) and sophomore Luke Nagel (Wayne, Pa. / Conestoga) added strong days as well with a win and a runner-up each. Echols was first in the 100 breast (1:00.00) and second in the 200 breast (2:14.76), while Nagel won the 1000 free (10:16.35) and was the runner-up in the 500 free (4:58.61).

The Generals will return to the pool on October 29 when they face-off against ODAC foe Lynchburg at 1:00 pm on the road.
