LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team defeated VMI on Saturday afternoon by a 174-87 score to close out the 2021-22 regular season.
Highlights from the meet:
-W&L won 10-of-14 events at the meet, with 10 swimmers combining for the victories across individual and relay events. Individually, seven different swimmers won eight races.
-First-year
Stephen Ewing (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) was the only W&L swimmer to log multiple individual wins, as he touched first in the 500 free (4:55.46) and the 1000 free (10:10.13).
Senior
Steve Warren (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and first-years
Luke Nagel (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) and
Matt Fritz (Reston, Va./South Lakes) all won one individual race and swam on a winning relay. Warren and Fritz swam on the 200 medley relay (1:34.45), while Warren won the 100 breast (58.05) and Fritz won the 100 back (53.50). Nagel was the victor in the 200 free (1:46.70), and opened for the 400 free relay (3:13.87).

Will Hughes (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson Secondary) and first-year
Devin Bateman (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) both had a hand in multiple wins as well, as they both swam on each relay.
