GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team returned to action for the time in nearly two months with a 142-119 win on the road against Gettysburg.
Highlights from the meet:
-The Generals won seven events on the day and also had six runner-up efforts to claim victory. In total, seven different Generals had a hand in at least one win.
-First-year
Devin Bateman (Fredericksburg, Va. / Stafford) accounted for three wins, as he was the victor in the 50 free (21. 49) and 100 fly (52.73), in addition to swimming the opening leg for the winning 200 free relay (1:26.44).
-Sophomore
Will Hughes (Fairfax, Va. / James W. Robinson Secondary) also had a hand in multiple wins, anchoring the 200 free relay and emerging victorious in the 200 back (2:01.19).
-Senior
Steve Warren (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) and first-years
Matt Fritz (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) and
Reese Nelson (Fort Worth, Texas / Fort Worth Country Day) rounded out the winners for W&L. Warren placed first in the 100 breast (59.33), Fritz in the 100 back (53.37) and Nelson in the 200 fly (1:59.50).
