Men's Swimming comes in fourth at Franklin & Marshall Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team held in fourth place over the final two days of championship races at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Highlights from the meet:
 
-F&M won the invitational with a total of 1,613 points, followed by Mount St. Mary's (1,402.5), Mary Washington (1,246.5), W&L (1,111) and Shippensburg (853) in the Top 5. Ramapo (537), Montclair State (433), York (Pa.) (407) and Saint Vincent (185) completed the field of teams.
 
-The Generals were led on the second and third days by sophomore Bennett Ehret (Stamford, Conn. / Westhill) and first-year Devin Bateman (Fredericksburg, Va. / Stafford). Ehret placed fourth in the 200 fly (1:57.34) and fifth in the 400 IM (4:16.74), while Bateman earned a third-place finish in the 200 fly (1:57.05).
 
-Bateman also helped the 200 medley relay (1:34.67) and 400 free relay (3:09.85) to fifth-place finishes. He was joined by first-year Matt Fritz (Reston, Va. / South Lakes), senior Steve Warren (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) and first-year Baxter Smelzer (Greensboro, N.C. / Page) on the 200 medley relay and sophomore Malachi Eberly (Reading, Pa. / Wilson), first-year Luke Nagel (Wayne, Pa. / Conestoga) and junior Dawson Kramer (Taylors, S.C. / Eastside) on the 400 medley relay.
 
-First-year Stephen Ewing (Las Cruces, N.M. / Las Cruces) rounded out the Top 5 finishes for W&L on the weekend with a fifth-place showing in the 1650 free (16:55.14) on Sunday.

-Fritz, Warren, Bateman, Smelzer – 5th place 200 medley relay (1:34.67)
-Kramer, Echols, Whiting, Flower – 10th place 200 medley relay (1:36.16)
-Bateman, Eberly, Nagel, Kramer – 5th place 400 free relay (3:09.85)
-Bennett Ehret – 4th place 200 fly (1:57.34); 5th place 400 IM (4:16.74)
-Luke Nagel – 6th place 200 free (1:44.49)
-Steve Warren – 7th place 100 breast (58.85)
-Stephen Ewing – 5th place 1650 free (16:55.14)
-Devin Bateman – 3rd place 200 fly (1:57.05)
-Reese Nelson – 6th place 200 fly (1:57.85)
