LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team earned a 162-90 dual meet win over Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon in its home pool.
Highlights from the meet:
-The Generals won 13 out of 14 events on the day and had eight different swimmers combine for 11 individual wins. In total, 10 W&L swimmers contributed to at least one win.
-W&L was led by first-year
Devin Bateman (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford), who won the 50 free (21.90), 100 free (48.54), and 100 fly (52.98) for a team-high three individual wins. Junior
Todd Echols (Winston Salem, N.C./RJ Reynolds) also contributed to three wins, as he placed first in the 200 breast (2:17.22) and swam on the 200 medley relay (1:37.57) and 200 free relay (1:26.70).
First-year
Luke Nagel (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) earned a pair of individual wins after he touched first in the free (1:48.03) and 500 free (4:54.18). Sophomore
Malachi Eberly (Reading, Pa./Wilson) and first-year
Baxter Smelzer (Greensboro, N.C./Page) joined Echols on both relays.

Will Hughes (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson Secondary) and first-year
Matt Fritz (Reston, Va./South Lakes) both claimed an individual win and a relay win. Hughes won the 200 back (2:01.11) and swam on the 200 free relay, while Fritz took the top spot in the 100 back (54.82) and competed on the 200 medley relay.
