Gardner earns 100th win in W&L's 146-120 win over UMW

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team posted a 146-120 win at Mary Washington to open the 2019-20 season to give head coach Kami Gardner her 100th dual win as the women's head coach.

Highlights from the meet:

-Gardner reaches her 100th win on the women's side in just her 13th season as head coach and now owns a 100-32 record (.758) in women's dual meets.

-The Generals won nine of the 14 races and had nine different swimmers combine for 13 top-two finishes in individual events.

-Senior Emily Hageboeck (Charleston, W.Va. / George Washington) and first-year Sally Ennis (Richmond, Va. / Collegiate School) led the way for the Generals on the day with two individual wins each. Hageboeck topped the field in the 100 (1:07.08) and 200 breast (2:24.55) events, while Ennis touched the wall first in the 100 (1:00.88) and 200 back (2:11.81) races. Hageboeck also helped the 200 medley relay (1:50.06) to a win, swimming the second leg.

-Sophomore Caroline Baber (Richmond, Va. / Collegiate School) also performed strongly, placing first in the 200 individual medley (2:12.00), while adding a runner-up performance in the 50 free (25.29).

-Senior Laura Bruce (New Orleans, La. / Academy of the Sacred Heart), sophomore Claudia Barnett (Charlotte, N.C. / South Mecklenburg) and first-year Jillian Cantrell (Harrison, Tenn. / Girls Preparatory School) claimed the other three individual wins for W&L, with Bruce in the 200 fly (2:13.37), Barnett in the 100 free (54.61) and Cantrell in the 100 fly (58.32).

-MacQueen, Baber, Barnett, Sara Gaston – 2nd 400 free relay (3:37.89)
-Mattie Grant – 2nd 1000 free (10:59.66); 2nd 500 free (5:21.42)
-Sally Ennis – 1st 100 back (1:00.88); 1st 200 back (2:11.81)
-Turner Bobbitt – 2nd 100 back (1:02.24)
-Emily Hageboeck – 1st 100 breast (1:07.08); 1st 200 breast (2:24.55)
-Laura Bruce – 1st 200 fly (2:13.37)
-Caroline Baber –1st 200 IM (2:12.00), 2nd 50 free (25.29)
-Claudia Barnett – 1st 100 free (54.61)
-Jillian Cantrell – 1st 100 fly (58.32)
