LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 13 Washington and Lee women's swimming team took home a pair of victories on Saturday, defeating crosstown rival VMI, 203-52, and ODAC foe Randolph, 214-25, in a tri-meet at the W&L Natatorium.
Highlights from the meet:
-The women claimed victory in all but one race, placing eight different swimmers first in the individual events, while winning both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
-The Generals were paced by a trio of swimmers, all of whom won twice individually and swam on the victorious 200 medley relay (1:49.32). In the relay, junior Ashley Johnston (Gainesville, Ga./North Hall) swam first, followed by juniors Emily Hageboeck (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) and Ali MacQueen (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) and first-year Caroline Baber (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School).
-Johnston's individual wins came in the 100 (1:01.28) and 200 backstroke (2:12.96) races, while Hageboeck finished first in the 100 (1:05.80) and 200 breaststroke (2:20.59) events. MacQueen topped the 50 freestyle (24.80) and the 100 butterfly (58.66).
-Baber was also part of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:39.39) to conclude the meet, swimming the opening leg before senior Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Preparatory School), junior Laura Bruce (New Orleans, La./Academy of the Sacred Heart) and first-year Claudia Barnett (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg).
