PITTSBURGH – The No. 14 Washington and Lee women's swimming team continued its undefeated start to the 2018-19 season with a 149-113 dual meet win over No. 11 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday.
Highlights from the meet:
-The Generals claimed first place in 10 events to earn their fifth dual win in as many meets for the season.
-First-year Caroline Baber (Richmond, Va. / Collegiate School) paced the Generals with three individual wins on the day. She touched the wall first in the 50 (24.82) and 100 freestyle (54.41) events, in addition to winning the 200 individual medley (2:10.09)
-Juniors Ali MacQueen (Memphis, Tenn. / St. Mary's Episcopal School) and Emily Hageboeck (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) also had a big impact on the W&L win. MacQueen won the 100 (58.10) and 200 butterfly (2:10.44) races and swam on the winning 200 medley (1:49.56) and 200 freestyle relays (1:39.57). Hageboeck posted a pair of individual wins as well, in the 100 (1:06.24) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.54) events, and also swam on the 200 medley relay.
First-place finishes:
-Bobbitt, Hageboeck, MacQueen, Baber – 200 medley relay (1:49.56)
-MacQueen, Jamieson, Bobbitt, Claudia Barnett – 200 freestyle relay (1:39.57)
-Emily Hageboeck - 100 breaststroke (1:06.24), 200 breaststroke (2:21.54)
-Anna Jamieson – 100 backstroke (59.70)
-Ali MacQueen – 100 butterfly (58.10), 200 butterfly (2:10.44)
-Caroline Baber – 1st 50 freestyle (24.82), 100 freestyle (54.41), 200 individual medley (2:10.09)
