PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team defeated Carnegie Mellon (136-126) and Grove City (203-88) in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Carnegie Mellon.
First-year Ali MacQueen (Memphis, Tenn. / St. Mary's Episcopal School) led the way for the Generals, winning one individual event and swimming on two winning relays. First-year Emily Hageboeck (Charleston, W.Va. / George Washington) took the top spot in two individual events and competed on one winning relay.
MacQueen won the 100-yard fly with a time of 57.01, which set a new pool record at CMU. Hageboeck took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.78) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.40).
Senior Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial) and sophomore Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School) joined MacQueen and Hageboeck on the winning 200-yard medley relay squad that touched the wall in 1:48.46.
The winning 200-yard free relay squad consisted of MacQueen, Chancey, senior Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and junior Cassidy Fuller (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo). They touched the wall in 1:38.10.
Rollo took first in the 100-yard backstroke (59.16), while first-year Ashley Johnston (Gainesville, Ga. / North Hall) placed third in the 100 back (1:01.01). Holmes finished first in the 500 free with a time of 5:12.40.
First-year Kelly Amar (Mount Vernon, N.Y. / The Ursuline School) placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.95). Chancey took second in the 100-yard free (53.85) and third in the 50-yard free (2:24.40), while first-year Taylor Ecleberry (Goshen, Ky. / Sacred Heart Academy) finished second in the 1000-yard free (10:52.62).
W&L returns to the pool on November 18-20, when it travels to the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
