W&L Men's Swimming Downs R-MC, 162-96

LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior Tommy Thetford (Birmingham, Ala. / The Altamont) won three individual events and swam on one winning relay to lead the Washington and Lee men's swimming team to a 162-96 victory over Randolph-Macon on Friday at Cy Twombly Pool.

Thetford claimed the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.19), 100-yard free (47.89) and the 50-yard free with a time of 21.46. 

He also swam on the 200-yard free relay squad that touched the wall in 1:28.13 for first place. Thetford was accompanied by senior Jake Burns (Greensboro, N.C. / Greensboro Day), junior Corey Connelly (Belleair, Fla. / Palm Harbor University) and first-year Evan Kramer (Taylors, S.C. / Eastside).

Seniors Jaime Hayes (Chattanooga, Tenn. / McCallie School) and Thomas Ferguson (Midlothian, Va. / Trinity Episcopal) both had first-place finishes. Hayes took the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:25.84, while Ferguson claimed the 100-yard fly (54.34). 

Sophomore Sam Childress (Springfield, Ill. / Glenwood) touched the wall in 4:56.72 to take first in the 500-yard free, while first-year Brian Legarth (Apex, N.C. / Apex) finished first in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:59.43. 

Washington and Lee returns to the pool on November 12 when it takes on Carnegie Mellon and Grove City at Carnegie Mellon at 11:30 am.
