BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee women's swim team picked up eight first-place finishes as it took down Bridgewater and Hollins in a dual-meet on Saturday at Nininger Hall.
W&L defeated Bridgewater, 115-75, and topped Hollins, 118-61.
Senior Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) and sophomore Mara Tynan (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) each claimed a top spot in an individual event and participated on a winning relay.
Foster and Tynan were joined by senior Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South) and sophomore Shannon Belforti (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) on the 200-meter medley relay squad that clocked in at 2:08.12 for first place.
Foster also won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:10.38, while Tynan took the 100-meter butterfly in 1:07.93.
Sophomore Cassidy Fuller (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo) finished first in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 28.98, while junior Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial) clocked in at 1:02.32 to win the 100-meter freestyle. Junior Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) placed first in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:09.81 and senior Lizz Platt (DuBois, Pa. / Dubois Area) touched the wall in 9:58.47 to claim the 800-meter freestyle event.
Senior Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) also had a first-place showing for the Generals. She won the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:36.44.
Washington and Lee returns to the pool on January 16, when it travels to Catholic to take on the Cardinals for a 1:00 pm meet.
