LEXINGTON, Va. — The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's swimming team won 11 events en route to defeating VMI, 148-69, and set five new pool records on Saturday at Cy Twombly Pool.
Juniors Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial) each won two individual events and were a part of one winning relay to lead the Generals.
Holmes claimed the top spot in the 100 freestyle in 54.11 and the 200 freestyle (1:54.78), with her 200 free being a new pool record. She was also part of the 200 freestyle relay that touched the wall in 1:40.04 and set a pool record. The quartet consisted of Holmes, seniors Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) and Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South) and first-year Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School).
Rollo set new pool records in the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke events. She finished first in the 100 back with a time of 59.11 and in the 200 back in 2:08.65. She was a part of the 200 medley relay that was first in 1:49.92, and also broke a pool record. The foursome consisted of Rollo, Schaffer, sophomore Kira Tomenchok (Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal School) and Chancey.
Schaffer placed first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.51. Sophomore Cassidy Fuller (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo) touched the wall first in two events. She won the 100 butterfly in 59.96 and the 200 butterfly (2:14.22).
Senior Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) claimed the top spot in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:35.33, and junior Haylee Rademann (Folsom, Calif. / St. Francis) finished first in the 200 IM (2:19.72).
The Generals next compete at the ODAC Championship on February 12-14.
