WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee women's swimming team claimed 10 of the 15 events in posting a 178-84 victory over Catholic on Saturday afternoon in the Nation's Capital.
The Generals were led by junior Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial), who won two individual events and swam on two winning relay teams. She touched first in the 100 back with a time of 59.64 and claimed the 200 back with a time of 2:09.72.
Rollo also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team that finished in 1:51.44 and on the winning 200 free relay squad that touched in 1:42.06. She was joined on the 200 medley relay team by senior Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South), sophomore Kira Tomenchok (Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal School) and first-year Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School). The 200 free relay quartet consisted of Tomenchok, Rollo, junior Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and Chancey.
Chancey also won the 100 free with a time of 54.74, while Holmes won the 200 free with a time of 1:57.97. Tomenchok swam a time of 1:01.64 to finish first in the 100 fly and first-year Alison Murtagh (Andover, Mass. / Andover) claimed victory in the 1000 free in 11:00.32.
Sophomore Mara Tynan (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) won the 500 free with a time of 5:24.92 and junior Haylee Rademann (Folsom, Calif. / St. Francis) emerged victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.66.
The Generals dominated the 100 back and 100 free events, claiming the top three finishers in each event. Trailing Rollo in the 100 back were senior Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) with a time of 1:02.25 and Tomenchok with a 1:02.72. Holmes (55.76) and Schaffer (57.37) finished closely behind Chancey in the 100 free.
W&L returns to the pool on Saturday when it hosts VMI and Ferrum for a 1:00 pm meet.
