ASHLAND, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming team topped Randolph-Macon, 167-89, on Saturday at the Estes Aquatic Center.
W&L claimed the top spot in 14 out of 28 events at the meet.
First-year Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School) and junior Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial) led the way for the Generals, both winning two individual events and swimming on two winning relays.
Chancey won the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.90) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.86), while Rollo finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.68) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.10).
The duo also swam on the 200-yard medley relay squad that took first in 1:57.42 and the 200-yard free relay team that placed first in 1:40.45. Chancey and Rollo were joined by sophomores Katie Gardner (Irvington, N.Y. / Irvington) and Kira Tomenchok (Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal Scool) on the 200-yard MR relay and they were accompanied by first-year Jordan Watson (Fayetteville, Ga. / Whitewater) and junior Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) on the 200-yard free relay.
Gardner also had first-place showings in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.89) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.41).
Tomenchok finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:16.88 and Holmes touched the wall in 10:46.74 in the 1000-yard freestyle event for first.
Sophomores Cassidy Fuller (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo) and Mara Tynan (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) earned first-place finishes. Fuller took the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.19) and Tynan claimed the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.87).
Seniors Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) and Meredith Murphy (Hillsboro, Calif. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) also had first-place showings for W&L, with Foster winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.61 and Murphy clocking in at 2:22.75 for first in the 200-yard individual medley.
W&L returns to action on November 14, when it travels to Carnegie Mellon to take on the Tartans and Allegheny for a 10:00 am meet.
