LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team took down Catholic, 158-95, on Saturday afternoon at the Cy Twombly pool.
Sophomores Jake Burns (Greensboro, N.C. / Greensboro Day), Trenten Babcock (Belmont, Mich. / Rockford) and Brennan Haley (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield), and first-year Thomas Caldwell (Greenville, S.C. / Wade Hampton) all claimed victory in two individual events.
Burns won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.03 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.89. Babcock claimed victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.66) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.24), while Haley won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.69 and clocked in at 52.47 to win the 100-yard butterfly. Caldwell touched first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.30) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.82).
Burns, Babcock, Haley and senior Alex Cram (Columbia, S.C. / Irmo) teamed up to win the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:37.87.
Burns and Haley then paired with first-year John Carmody (West Des Moines, Iowa / Dowling Catholic) and sophomore Andrew Botelho (Huntersville, N.C. / William Amos Hough) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.37.
Cram added a win in the 200-yard backstroke, touching in 2:01.81, while first-year Noah Schammel (Greenville, S.C. / St. Joseph's Catholic School) placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.35.
Sophomore Jamie Hayes (Chattanooga, Tenn. / McCallie School) clocked in at 10:19.28 for first place honors in the 1000-yard freestyle.
The Generals return to the pool on January 24 when they travel to VMI to take on the Keydets and Ferrum for a 1:00 pm meet.
