LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team posted a 1-2 overall record as it hosted a series of matches on Sunday afternoon at Doremus Gym.

The Generals (1-2) opened with a 26-18 victory over Huntingdon, before falling to Ohio Northern (39-10) and Lycoming (45-3).

W&L was led on the day by junior Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa./Haverford School), who posted a perfect 3-0 record.  He began with a pin over first-year Aidan Talorico (Auburn, Ala./Auburn) (4:03) in the win over Huntingdon and then posted a 13-3 major decision over Ohio Northern first-year Alex Bair (Centerville, Ohio/Centreville).  His day ended with a 10-4 decision over Lycoming first-year Brandon Rudy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley).

Sophomore Bennett Lewis (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian) and first-year Zachary Papin (Carrollton, Texas/St. Mark's) both went 2-1 overall. 

Lewis won his opener by forfeit and downed ONU sophomore Dillon Brancheau (Auburn Hills, Mich./Avondale) with a 13-3 major decision.  He finished with an 8-0 loss to Lycoming senior Johnathan Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes).

Papin posted an action-packed 20-13 win over Huntingdon first-year Brewer Gilliland (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson) and he notched a 7-5 victory over ONU first-year Matt Mangen (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles), before being pinned by Lycoming sophomore Seth Lansberry (Klingerstown, Pa./Line Mountain) in 3:52.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Southern Virginia for a 6:30 pm match.
