LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming
team claimed 10 event wins on its way to defeating Randolph-Macon,
154-99, on Saturday afternoon at Cy Twombly Pool.
Sophomore Emily Rollo
(Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial) won two individual
events and participated on a winning relay. Rollo was joined by
junior Stephanie
Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach), first-year Katie Gardner
(Irvington, N.Y. / Irvington) and senior Caroline Hamp
(Avon Lake, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) Memorial) in the 200 yard
medley relay that took first with a time of 1:52.02.
Rollo touched the wall first in the 200 yard butterfly (2:16.88)
and in the 200 yard backstroke (2:13.48). Foster and Gardner also
notched first-place finishes. Foster took the 100 yard backstroke
(1:02.40) and Gardner finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke
(1:10.65).
Sophomore Elisabeth
Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) was also a winner
in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.22 and the 100 yard
freestyle with a time of 54.02.
First-year Claire Meyers
(Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne Catholic) took first in the 200
yard breaststroke (2:40.13) and second in the 100 yard breaststroke
(1:12.71).
Senior Sydney Gay
(Henrico, Va. / Henrico) won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of
11:28.56 and sophomore Natalie Brendsel (Oakton, Va. / Flint Hill)
added a win in the 200 yard freestyle crossing the line in
2:02.55.
W&L returns to the pool on Nov. 7, when it travels to Sweet
Briar for a 6:00 pm meet.
