LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's swimming team claimed six event wins on its way to defeating Mary Washington, 142-120, on Friday at Cy Twombly Pool.
Sophomore John Womack (Glendale, Ariz./Glendale Preparatory Academy) led the Generals with two individual wins, and was part of a winning relay. He touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.94, and took first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.44).
The 200-yard freestyle relay claimed first in 1:27.12. The quartet consisted of Womack, first-year John Carmody (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic), sophomore Jake Burns (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) and first-year Tommy Thetford (Birmingham, Ala./The Altamont).
In the 50-yard freestyle, Thetford claimed first in 21.27, and followed that with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (47.51).
First-year Noah Schammel (Greenville, S.C./St. Joseph's Catholic School) secured two event wins for W&L. He claimed the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.78 and the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:03.05. He also took second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.30).
The Generals next compete on Saturday, October 25, when they host Randolph-Macon at 1:00 pm.
