WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington and Lee women's swim team posted 10 first place finishes in en route to defeating Catholic and Marymount in the dual-meet at the DuFour Center.
The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach), sophomore Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South), junior Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) and senior Meredith Hardy (Cary, N.C. / Athens Drive), started the meet off strong, taking first-place and finished five second ahead of second place.
First-year Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) continued the win streak by placing first in the 100 free in a time of 10:50.53. The second place swimmer finished 15 seconds behind Holmes.
Hardy also picked up another win for the Generals, touching the wall first in the 200 free (1:59.57), while Hamp placed first in the 100 back (1:02.32). Foster came in second behind Hamp in a time of 1:02.98.
Schaffer earned points for the Blue and White when she came in second in the 100 breast (1:14.00). Senior Lauren Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md. / Saint Paul's) and first-year Haylee Rademann (Folsom, Calif. / St. Francis) finished one-two in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:18.16 and 2:20.68, respectively.
First-year Natalie Brendsel (Oakton, Va. / Flint Hill) and Hardy increased the Generals point total by placing first and second in the 100 free. Brendsel touched the wall first in 55.29, while Hardy finished in a time of 55.61.
First-year Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial) and first-year Abigail Sterns followed suit, with Rollo finishing first (2:14.94) in the 200 back and Sterns (Brussels, Belgium / Orcutt Academy - Brussels American School) placing second (2:18.43).
Junior Mary Gabe (Mequon, Wis. / Homestead) and Holmes also earned first place finishes for the Generals. Gabe took home the top spot in the 200 breast (2:38.29), while Holmes picked up her second first place finish of the day in the 500 free (5:16.64).
Hamp, Rademann and junior Kate Feeser (Ridgefield, Conn. / Ridgefield) ended the individual events strong for the Generals. Hamp earned first place in the 100 fly (1:01.02), while Rademann (1:05.00) and Feeser (1:05.97) place second and third, respectively.
The Generals will return to the pool next Saturday when the host VMI and Ferrum for a 12:00 pm meet.
