W&L Men's Swimming Defeats Randolph-Macon, 149.5-112.5

The Washington and Lee men's swimming team recorded six first place finishes to secure a 149.5-112.5 victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at the Estes Aquatic Center.

First-year Andrew Botelho (Huntersville, N.C./William Amos Hough) notched the first top place finish, touching the wall first in the 200 free (1:51.48). Senior David Ireland (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) led the team with two first-place finishes, clocking in first in the 100 breast (1:03.19) and the 200 breast (2:17.32).

First-year Thomas Ferguson (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) also had a successful outing, taking the top spot in the 200 fly (2:04.66) and the 100 fly (55.25), while sophomore William Fries (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) finished first in the 500 free (5:05.80).

The 400 free relay team of first-year John Womack (Glendale, Ariz./Glendale Preparatory Academy), sophomore Matt Kiser (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody), Botelho, and first-year Jake Burns (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) teamed up to take first place, touching the wall in 3:18.79.

The Generals return to the pool on November 1, when they compete at the Wingate Invitational at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.
