PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Washington and Lee women's swimming
team went 1-2 overall in meets with Carnegie Mellon, Rochester and
Allegheny on Saturday afternoon at CMU's University Center.
The Generals (6-2) defeated Allegheny by a score of 182-77, but
dropped a narrow 132-130 loss to Rochester and a 163-94 decision to
the host Tartans.
Senior Jocelyn
Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) led W&L
with a first place finish in the 100 back (1:00.19) and a
third-place finish in the 100 free (54.65). She also competed
on the first-place finishing 400 free relay team (3:42.39) and the
200 medley relay team that finished third overall with a time of
1:54.59. Joining Cassada on the 400 free relay squad were
sophomore Meredith
Hardy (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive), junior Izzy Brassfield
(Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) and junior Delaney Rolfe (Dallas,
Texas/Highland Park). The 200 medley relay team was comprised
of Cassada, first-years Hannah Melkun
(Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) and Caroline Hamp (Avon Lake,
Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and Brassfield.
Melkun also placed third in the 200 breast with a time of
2:32.80 and fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:11.27, while
senior Katie
Salvati (Roselle Park, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) finished
third in the 100 back (1:02.30), third in the 200 IM (2:17.31) and
fourth in the 200 back (2:14.62).
Sophomore Lauren
Kasoff (Owings Mills, Md./Saint Paul's) touched second in the
200 IM with a time of 2:17.16 and fifth in the 200 fly with a time
of 2:17.16.
Washington and Lee will return to action on December 3-4 as it
competes in the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. Action
begins on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
