LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee
wrestling team improved to 1-0 on the season with a 46-3 victory
over Southern Virginia on Wednesday evening at Doremus Gym.
The Generals picked up forfeit wins in six
weight classes and registered a pair of wins by technical
fall. Sophomore Ben Ersing (Beverly, Mass./St.
John's Prep) notched a 17-2 victory over Kevin Valverde at 133
pounds, while sophomore Sam Campbell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier)
posted a 23-8 win over Jordan Kofford at 141
pounds. At 157 pounds, sophomore David Dennis
(Sherman, W.Va./Ravenswood) was defeated by Peter Rose, 10-5.
Washington and Lee will now break for finals
and the holidays before returning to the mats on Jan. 9 when it
hosts a quad with Gettysburg, Penn State-DuBois and Washington
& Jefferson. Action begins at 11:00 am.
