GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming team defeated Gettysburg, 104-93, while the women's swimming team topped Bryn Mawr, 86-9, but lost to the Bullets, 61-33, on Saturday afternoon in Gettysburg, Pa.

On the men's side, the Generals (4-0) won both the 400 medley relay and the 400 free relay. The team of senior Evan Fitzgerald (Southern Pines, N.C./Oneal School), sophomore Ian Childers (Ona, W. Va./Greater Latrobe), freshman Brandon Wilder (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) and sophomore Brandon Barnds (Mission Hills, Kansas/Shawnee) won the medley relay in a time of 3:45.03, while the quartet of seniors Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) and Joe Steiner (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe), sophomore Nicholas Talluri (Mount Airy, N.C./Mount Airy) and freshman Ryan Elsey (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) placed first in the free relay in a time of 3:23.40. Wilder also notched a win in the 200 fly, touching in a time of 2:05.27.

The women (4-3) were paced by junior Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Governor's School), who finished first in the 200 back and competed on the second-place finishing 400 medley relay.

Additionally, freshman Jackie Smith (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood), junior Julianne Miata (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake), senior Colette Moryan (Westfield, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) and junior Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines) all notched second-place finishes on the day. Smith was the second finisher in the 200 free (2:02.02), Miata took second in the 50 free (25.88), Moryan was second in the 200 fly (2:22.01) and Mahoney was second in the 200 breast (2:35.55).

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., to take on Carnegie Mellon, the University of Rochester and Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 pm.
