W&L Swim Teams Split Meets At Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams split their dual matches at the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon. The Generals' men defeated UMW, 136-69, while the women fell to the Eagles by a score of 118-82.

The W&L men (4-0) were led by junior Mike Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) and freshman Brett Tatman (Marietta, Ga./George Walton), who each won two individual events. Ginder took first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.54 and also claimed first in the 200 back (1:59.11). Tatman placed first in the 500 free (4:50.16) and 1000 free (10:01.12). Ginder also combined with freshman Chris Diebold (Platte City, Mo./Lansdale Catholic), junior Dave Croushore (Glen Allen, Va./North Penn) and sophomore Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:15.86.

For the W&L women (7-2), senior Kristine Holda (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) placed first in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.58 and teamed with freshmen Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines), Julianne Miata (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake) and Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Maggie Walker Governor's) to win the 400 free relay (3:49.71). Freshman Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) also placed first in the 200 back with a time of 2:36.38.

The W&L men will return to action on Friday as they compete in the three-day Davidson College Invitational. The W&L women return to action on Saturday as they travel to Dickinson for a 1:00 pm meet.
