ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming team won nine individual events as the Generals defeated Randolph-Macon, 154.5-79.5, on Saturday afternoon. On the women's side W&L fell to the Yellow Jackets, 145-117.
On the men's side, senior Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) led the way with top-finishes in three events. Ritter won the 100 Breast (1:05.67) and the 50 Free (22.32) before finishing the day a first-place in the 500 Free (5:09.48).
Junior Christopher Colby (Ossining, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) won a pair of events on the day, highlighted by a pool record time of 2:02.28 in the 200 Fly. He also won the 100 Fly with a time of (54.37).
Sophomore Reed Evans (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro) and freshmen Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) and Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) each won an event for the Generals (5-0). Evans won the 200 Free with a time of 1:55.06, Ginder touched the wall first in the 100 Back (57.76) and Hayes recorded top honors in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:26.14.
On the women's side, freshman Sarah Bloom (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) led W&L (6-3, 3-1) with a first place time of 5:45.49 in the 500 Free.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday, January 25 when the Generals travel to Gettysburg. Meet time is 1:00 p.m.
