LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's swimming team saw its streak of 48 consecutive wins in ODAC regular season dual meets come to an end Friday night at the Cy Twombly Pool as Randolph-Macon held on for a 132-130 win over the Generals. On the men's side, W&L defeated the Yellow Jackets, 165-63.
Freshmen Erin Ewalt (Towson, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) and Tiffany Pearsall (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) keyed the R-MC (3-0, 2-0 ODAC) victory by each winning three events. Ewalt touched first in the 100 Back, finishing in 1:01.37, the 200 Back, finishing in 2:11.48 and the 100 Fly, finishing in 1:01.86. Pearsall won the 200 Free (1:57.26), 100 Free (55.07) and 500 Free (5:22.32).
The Generals (3-1, 2-1 ODAC) were led by senior Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross), who finished with firsts in the 1000 Free, 200 Fly and 200 IM with times of 11:49.87, 2:21.01 and 2:20.28, respectively. Freshman Elizabeth Sauer's (Reistertown, Md./McDonogh) time of 1:16.50 was good for first in the 100 Breast.
Junior Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) paced the W&L men (1-1) with three wins. He finished first in the 100 Back (57.45), 50 Free (22.80) and 100 Free (51.37). Senior Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) contributed two firsts with times of 1:53.92 and 2:16.73 in the 200 Free and 200 Back, respectively.
The Yellow Jackets men's team (1-2) was led by senior Nick Griffith's (Chesterfield, Va./L.C. Byrd) wins in the 100 (1:05.91) and 200 Breast (2:25.75).
The Generals' men's squad returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Mary Washington for a 2:00 pm meet. The women will be back in the pool on Wednesday hosting ODAC-rival Hollins for a 7:00 pm meet.
