BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team fell to 2-6 on the season as it was defeated by Southern Virginia, 28-22, on Wednesday evening.
Five Generals came away victorious in the match, including senior 174-pounder Ivan Zdanov (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and sophomore 184-pounder Joe Mueller (San Diego, Calif./Mount Carmel) who each tallied pins. Zdanov pinned Jon Lindsey in 4:23, while Mueller picked up his pin against Allen McDonald in 2:39.
The meet also marked the return of senior 197-pounder Ezra Morse (Central Point, Ore./Crater), who had been out since injuring his ankle over the Christmas holiday. Morse picked up a 9-1 victory over Andrew Coffman.
Also notching victories for the Generals were junior 165-pounder Alex Poor (Perkasie, Pa./Germantown-Academy), 5-2, and freshman 157-pounder Brian Avello (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Cardinal Newman), 23-20.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they compete in the Newport News Apprentice Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 8:00 am.
