Generals Down Southern Virginia Wrestling, 34-15

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team lost its first two matches of the evening before cruising to a 34-15 victory over Southern Virginia at the Warner Center on Wednesday evening.

The Generals won a total of seven matches on the evening. Leading the way for W&L were senior 197-pounder Ezra Morse (Central Point, Ore./Crater) and senior 174-pounder Ivan Zdanov (Frederick, Md./Frederick) who each picked up victories with pins. Morse pinned Allen MacDonald in two minutes, while Zdanov pinned David Gilliatt in 28 seconds.

The victory improved Morse to a perfect 7-0 on the season. Zdanov picked up victory number five against just three losses.

Sophomore 149-pounder Corey Little (Charlotte, N.C./Independence), freshman 157-pounder Brian Avello (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Cardinal Newman), and sophomore 165-pounder Alex Poor (Perkasie, Pa./Germantown Academy) all notched victories over their opponents.

Senior 125-pounder Ben Segal (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin) and sophomore 184-pounder Joe Mueller (San Diego, Calif./Mount Carmel) both picked up forfeit wins.

The victory moves the Generals to 1-0 on the season, while the Knights fall to 2-4.

W&L will return to action on Jan. 5, 2002, when it competes in the Gettysburg Quadrangular.
