LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 139-66 defeat of Catholic, while the women's squad dropped a 115-90 decision to the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.
The men's team was led by senior co-captain Mike Miraglia (Rockville, Md./Rockville), who posted victories in the 200 IM (2:04.31) and the 200 Breastroke (2:18.80).
Sophomore Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) placed first in the 1000 Freestyle with a meet-record time of 10:18.07, while freshman Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) set a team season-best time with his win in the 100 Freestyle (49.43).
W&L also posted meet-record times in both the 400 Medley Relay (3:38.22) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:19.85).
On the women's side, sophomore Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) captured wins in the 200 IM (2:21.15), 200 Butterfly (2:17.44) and the 200 Breastroke (2:36.58), while sophomore Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) collected victories in the 100 (56.80) and 200 Freestyle (2:03.11).
The W&L men handed Catholic (5-1) its first loss of the season, while the Catholic women's team improved to 5-1. The W&L women are now 3-5 overall.
W&L will take a week off before hosting Johns Hopkins in a dual meet next Saturday at 11:00 am.
