W&L Men's Swimming Defeats V.M.I., 138-67

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and freshman Jonathan James (Covington, La./Covington) each won two events to lead Washington and Lee to a 138-67 victory over crosstown rival V.M.I. in men's swimming action on Wednesday evening in Lexington.

Hayes took home wins in the 100 Butterfly (53.86) and the 100 Breastroke (1:04.65), while James placed first in the 500 (5:08.71) and 1000 free (10:39.93).

Freshman Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) also set a meet record with his win in the 100 backstroke in a time of 54.28.

W&L (4-1) will return to action on Friday, Jan.12, as it hosts Buffalo State. Meet time is set for 5:00 pm.
