LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee hosted Buffalo State College in a dual swim meet in Lexington,Va., on Friday afternoon. The Generals claimed a 119-63 victory in the men's competition, while the W&L women's squad rolled to a 113-71 victory.
For the women's squad (8-2), sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) led the way with two individual wins. Kennedy placed first in the 200 yard IM (2:17.38) and the100 yard breaststroke (1:10.68). Also claiming individual victories for W&L were senior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Point South) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.29), and freshman Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) in the 100 yard butterfly (1:04.77). Meghan Woods and Jordaine Probst paced Buffalo State (2-5) with two wins apiece. Woods claimed the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.38) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:47.71), while Probst swam her way to wins in the 50 yard freestyle (26.42) and the 100 yard freestyle (58.27).
On the men's side, the Generals (7-2) were paced by junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), who claimed three victories. Hayes emerged victorious in the 200 yard IM (2:03.35), the 100 yard butterfly (55.99), and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.05). Senior Ken Ervin (Florence, S.C./Asheville School) claimed both the 50 yard freestyle (22.68), and the 100 yard freestyle (50.52). Other winners for the Generals were freshmen Zach Fake (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.62), and Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) in the 500 yard freestyle (4:58.55). The lone victory for the Bengals (3-3) came from Greg Stone in the 100 yard backstroke (57.66).
Both W&L squads will return to action tomorrow when they travel to Catholic University for a 2:00 pm dual meet.
