LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee swim teams hosted a pair of dual meets on Wednesday afternoon in the Cy Twombly Pool. The men's team swam past their cross-town rivals from VMI by a score of 121-79, while the women's squad defeated Sweet Briar College. 147-91.
The W&L men's team was paced by freshman Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) who claimed two individual victories. Frankfort swam his way to victories in the 200 yard IM (2:03.81) and the 100 yard backstroke (57.11). W&L also had three other swimmers who won individual events. Junior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) emerged victorious in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:11.07. Junior Mike Miraglia (Rockville, Md./Rockville). won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:53.04, while freshman Zack Fake (Upper Saddle River N.J./Northern Highlands) won the 100 yard freestyle in 50.38. The W&L men also claimed wins in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.09) and 200 yard medley relay (1:32.35).
On the women's side, W&L had eight individual winners. Sophomore Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child) paced the team with wins in the 200 yard freestyle (2:05.96) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:55.01). Single event winners for W&L were sophomore Katie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran) in the100-yard breaststroke (1:11.05), freshman Jennifer Fallon (Boerne, Texas/Boerne) in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:28.49), senior Lezael Haynes (St. Augustine Trinidad/St. Augustine Girls) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.14), sophomore Maggie Fagan (Manhasset, N.Y./Sacred Heart) in the 200 yard butterfly (2:35.47), sophomore Caitlin FitzRandolph (Canton, N.Y./H.C. Williams) in the 50 yard freestyle (26.94), freshman Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) in the 100 yard freestyle (57.10), and senior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Pt. South) in the 200 yard backstroke (2:29.76). W&L also won the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 2:00.97.
Both W&L squads will break for the holidays before returning to the pool against Hartwick on January 8th. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
