LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams were both in action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center against Mary Washington as the men walked away with a 109-73 win, but the women were defeated 117-68.
The men (7-5) were paced by sophomore Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island), who took home three first place finishes. Hayes was first in the 200 free (1:49.80), 100 fly (53.57), and 500 free (5:06.45), while sophomore Mike Miraglia (Rockville , Md./Rockville) and junior co-captain Jared Fribush (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) both took home a pair of first place finishes. Miraglia won the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.56 and the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.74 and Fribush was the top finisher in the 100 free (49.54) and 50 free (22.19).
The women (9-6) were led by senior captain Margaret Hoehl (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma), who continued her impressive swimming, winning the 200 free and 100 fly events. She clocked in at 2:00.09 in the 200 free and 1:03.05 in the 100 fly. Freshman Laura Ingoldsby (McLean, Va./Holy Child) placed first in the 1000 free with a time of 11:40.67.
Both teams will be in action again on Sat., Feb. 6, when they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Emory University at 11:00 am.
