LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming squad earned its sixth victory of the season against just three losses by defeating Catholic 105-96 on Saturday afternoon. The W&L women dropped to 7-3 on the season by suffering a 109-96 loss to C atholic.
The men were led by junior co-captain Jared Fribush (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch), sophomore Rob Little (Fort Hill, S.C./Mercersburg Academy), and freshman Rick Black (Indiana, Pa./Marion Center), who won two events each.
Fribush took first in the 50 free with a time of 22.47 and the 100 free with a time of 50.74, while Little placed first in the 200 free (1:55.01) and 200 backstroke (2:06.84). Black took home top finishes in the 1000 free (10:57.65) and 500 free (5:16.28 ). Sophomore Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) placed first overall in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.63.
The women were paced by senior captain Margaret Hoehl (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma), who took home top finishes in the 200 free (1:59.84), 200 fly (2:16.75), and 500 free (5:21.08). All were meet records.
Junior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) placed first in the 200 back (2:20.58), junior Lezael Haynes (St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Augustine Girls) placed first in the 200 IM (2:24.15), and freshman Laura Ingoldsby (Mc Lean, Va./Holy Child) took home top honors in the 1000 free (11:40.36) for the Generals.
W&L's women will be in action again on Jan. 19, when they travel to Radford for a meet with the host Highlanders and ODAC-rival Hollins scheduled to commence at 7:00 pm. The men will next be in action on Jan. 22-23, when they host Johns Hopkins and Sewan ee. The Hopkins meet will take place on the 22nd at 7:00 pm, with the Sewanee meet taking place at 10:00 am on the 23rd.
