Lexington, Va. -- Washington and Lee's men's and women's swimming teams (7-2 women, 5-3 men) reigned victorious on Friday evening with victories over Buffalo State College (3-4 women, 0-6 men). The women won by a narrow margin of 92-90, while the men had an easier time with a 111-74 victory.
The women were paced by senior Margaret Hoehl (Tullahoma, Tenn.), who took first place in three events. She timed 1:13.55 in the 100 breaststroke event, 2:01.21 in the 200 freestyle event, and 1:03.35 in the 100 butterfly race. Senior Courtney Tyler (Anchorage, Ky./ Sacred Heart Academy) finished first in the 200 individual medley event, while junior Lauren Beckenhauer (Grosse Pointe, Mich./ Grosse Pointe South) topped all competitors in the 100 backstroke.
Sophomore Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./ Mercer Island) took first place in three events himself to lead the men. Hayes timed 5:11.99 in the 500 freestyle, 1:51.19 in the 200 freestyle, and 54.21 in the 100 butterfly. Junior All-American Jared Fribush (Burtonsville, Md./ Paint Branch) took first place in two events, timing 22.40 in the 50 freestyle and 50.95 in the 100 freestyle events. Sophomore Mike Miraglia (Rockville, Md./ Rockville) rounds out the list of winners. He took first place in the 100 breaststroke event, with a time of 1:04.34 and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.18.
Both teams will look to continue their successes on Saturday afternoon, when they host Catholic University at the Cy Twombly Pool. The meet will commence at 2:00.
